  1. Gold for good conduct. Chest full of ribbons for dedication. Wings for aviation. I know you are proud even though he has no commander-n-chief.

    • I stumbled across this on the web looking for something else. I’m proud to say that I was Darrell’s Senior Chief at the time and took immense pride in his selection to Chief Petty Officer. He was a helluva P-3 Naval Aircrewman and crack sensor operator. I was privileged to have served and flown with him at Patrol Squadron 62.

      • Good Day, Mark….
I am so appreciative of your comment in response to my Son’s performance. I will never forget the evening Chase, my Grandson, and I had the honor of pinning Darrell’s CPO emblems on his pressed khaki collar. When the bell sounded to announce that Darrell Tomlin “had arrived” I was so filled with pride and emotion. Thank you again, Mark. You have made this old woman’s day!
        Regards,
        Sheila

      • Mark….Darrell was found dead this morning, I have a Navy question. Can you call me at 770-228-6087, please. Sheila Tolley

I called the number listed and got a voice mail with a man’s voice. You can reach me at (904) 349-5264. I am so very sorry for your loss and the loss of Darrell to this world. I am attempting to contact a couple of his former shipmates, Dewey Skyers and Spence Cunningham, to let them know as well.

    • Sheila,
My computer crashed over a year ago and I lost all e-mail contacts etc., so I hope this method of communication reaches you. I just wanted you to know that I have never, ever forgotten Darrell. I thought about him this May on the anniversary of his passing and I raised a glass in memory of him today on Veteran’s Day as I reflected on all the shipmates I had served with that were special to me.
I hope this finds you well.
      Yours Always,

      • You are a wonderful and thoughtful friend, Mark. I thank you so much for your thoughtfulness.
        Love,
        Sheila

  2. Sheila – my husband Jeff and I were good friends with Darrell when he lived in Colorado Springs. Jeff was the best man in Darrell’s wedding and I was a bridesmaid. I’d like to think those were some good times in his life here in the Springs. He has several friends here who are thinking of you and praying for your family and send their condolences. So sorry for your loss.

  11. I just found out of Darrell’s passing. Words cannot express my sadness. Darrell and I started our naval careers together and I will never forget the times we shared, some hard, some hilarious. I remember a particular weekend Darrell, Terry McDonald and I drove form “A” school in Millington, TN to GA (6 Flags) for the weekend. Darrell warned me the entire ride about the big scary dogs that were going to eat me when we got to his house (I think it might have been a relative‚Äôs house)… really laid in on thick. True to form he had called ahead and set up for the dogs to go nuts when we arrived… Scared me half to death. Good times. I have a few pictures I took during boot camp that I’d be happy to pass along. Feel free to contact me.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. God bless.
