If you don’t use it….you lose it

WRITTEN BY: SHEILA TOLLEY

I know I remember that title slogan from my youth. I never believed it until I started receiving my Senior Discounts, but I sure believe it now.

Old Father Time and Mother Nature work as a Tag Team. They sneak up on us.

One day Marvin Gaye was telling me what he Heard Through the Grapevine,  The American Breed wanted to Bend and Shape me while Johnny Nash wanted to Hold Me Tight…the next day, it seems, I was getting Senior Citizen Discounts from The Cracker Barrel.

We have all heard about the overwhelming onslaught by Social Media. We are losing our ability to have real, face to face, conversations.

This week, I heard that cursive writing is officially the latest victim of Progress. I am sure it is true. There is no need for cursive writing when it can so easily be replaced by a keyboard. I will miss the art of cursive writing.

Many years ago, a group of people in South Georgia began the process of having a portion of land become incorporated into a township. The gentleman who filled out the paperwork was not an artist, he was just a country gentleman with the will to help with the project.

He completed, with his best cursive ability, all the essential paperwork needed to create a town in South Georgia. It happened….Fort Valley was officially incorporated to become a town.

You may ask yourself, why is there no fort in Fort Valley? It is because the penmanship was erroneously interpreted. Fort Valley was meant to be Fox Valley. It was too much trouble to change all that paperwork, so they left the town’s name, as it was wrongly interpreted, Fort Valley.

I find that quite sad. Was it poor penmanship or a lazy reader? I would bet there were more foxes than forts in the valley. Especially since there were zero forts.

So today, in the name of progress, we eliminate cursive writing from our educational system. Why shouldn’t we?

Well, first and foremost, our Constitution is written in beautiful cursive penmanship. The Constitution is the Law of our Land.

Who will interpret the cursive legend for future generations? My guess is…. no one.  We are already trying to kill our Constitution by making it a living (changeable) document. We have allowed our Constitution to be questioned and abused and it will eventually become disposable.

I would bet all the gold in Fox Knox on that!

Being unbiased is a myth

WRITTEN BY: BILL BOWSER…FROM CINCINNATI, OHIO

The left-leaning mainstream news media like to claim they’re unbiased. Even to the casual observer this is obvious nonsense. For over fifty years of my experience they have been obviously predominantly liberal in their presentation of what passes for news. Surveys taken of news organizations reveal they vote about 90% democrat. A more neutral approach would do a lot to improve their dismal credibility, but finding unbiased reporters is actually quite impossible. The solution would be to get more conservative people in the news media, which is not appealing to anyone. Conservatives are reluctant to work in such a hostile environment, and liberals make it clear that they actually hate conservatives.

We all are biased, we form opinions about things even though we may have little or no knowledge about them. To make matters worse studies show that the more ignorant a person is about a subject, the more (s)he thinks (s)he knows about it. Consequently there are a lot of people with strong opinions about subjects who really know almost nothing what they’re talking about.

The only topics we are actually unbiased about are those in which we have no interest. This is why sports organizations try to use officials for competitions from locations which are distant from the teams competing so they will have no interest in the outcome.

Some people probably can suppress their biases to some degree, but those who don’t recognize their own biases are not among them. If you don’t recognize you have a problem then you have no motive to try to correct it. The mainstream news media have lost their credibility with their liberal bias and their outright hatred for President Donald Trump and conservatives in general. They are a significant part of the swamp that needs to be drained, like pond scum.

But we conservatives must do far more than complain about the Leftist news media. We’ve been doing that for as long as I can remember without any improvement; in fact it is getting worse. We must join the Leftists so that our voices can be heard and provide some balance. We must defend our beliefs and articulate our philosophy. We need to rebut the daily insults the Left hurls at us. We have to stop being punching bags for the Left. There are more of us, but they speak louder than we do. We can’t allow this to continue.

The truth, the whole truth and nothing but……(yeah, right)

A lawyer, who had a wife and 12 children,  needed to move because his rental agreement had expired and the owner wanted to reoccupy the home.

The barrister was having a lot of difficulty finding a new house.  When he said, he had 12 children, no one would rent a home to him because they felt that the children would destroy the place. He couldn’t say he had no children, because he couldn’t lie (as we all know, lawyers cannot, and do not lie).

So, he sent his wife for a walk to the cemetery with 11 of their kids.He took the remaining one with him to see rental homes with the real estate agent. He loved one of the homes, and the price was right.

The agent asked: “How many children do you have?”He answered: “Twelve.”The agent asked, “Where are the others?”The lawyer, with his best courtroom sad look,  answered, “They’re in the cemetery with their mother.

“MORAL: It’s not necessary to lie; one only has to choose the right words,  and don’t forget, a majority of politicians are lawyers.

Astronomy Picture of the Day

Celestial Alignment over Sicilian Shore
Image Credit & Copyright: Dario Giannobile

Explanation: This was a sunrise to remember. About a month ago, just before the dawn of the Sun, an impressive alignment of celestial objects was on display to the east. Pictured, brightest and closest to the horizon, is the Moon. The Moon’s orange glow is caused by the scattering away of blue light by the intervening atmosphere. Next brightest and next closest to the horizon is the planet Venus. Compared to the Moon, Venus appears more blue — as can (also) be seen in its reflection from the water. Next up is Jupiter, while the bright object above Jupiter is the star Antares. Although this display was visible from almost anywhere on planet Earth, the featured image was taken along a picturesque seashore near the city of Syracuse, on the island of Sicily, in the country of Italy. This month Saturn appears between Venus and Jupiter before sunrise, while Mars is visible just after sunset.
