Rush Limbaugh Nailed This One

I have no way of confirming the specific dollar amounts below, but I know soldiers get gypped overall. 9/11 was a mass casualty tragedy which galvanized our Country.

Soldiers and their loved ones feel the same pain and loss. Violent death is violent death, be it alone or among many. I had heard victims of 9/11 got a substantial settlement, but these amounts seem out of proportion. Also, I am not sure who actually paid them. I am sure some 9/11 victims had personal insurance, some companies insure their employees and they probably sued the owners and developers of the twin towers etc?? Soldiers just have their respective military service to support them for the most part.

Rush Limbaugh Nailed This One….Love him or hate him, he nailed this one right on the head.

Rush Limbaugh:

I think the vast differences in compensation between victims of the September 11 casualty and those who die serving our country in Uniform are profound. No one is really talking about it either, because you just don’t criticize anything having to do with September 11. Well, I can’t let the numbers pass by because it says something really disturbing about the entitlement mentality of this country. If you lost a family member in the September 11 attack, you’re going to get an average of $1,185,000. The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7 million.

If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier killed in action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death benefit, half of which is taxable. Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. If you are the surviving spouse, you get $833 a month until you remarry or die. There’s a payment of $211 per month for each child under 18. When the child hits 18, those payments come to a screeching halt.

Keep in mind that some of the people who are getting an average of $1.185 million up to $4.7 million are complaining that it’s not enough. Their deaths were tragic, but for most, they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Soldiers put themselves in harms way FOR ALL OF US, and they and their families know the dangers. (Actually, soldiers are put in harms way by politicians and commanding officers.)

We also learned over the weekend that some of the victims from the Oklahoma City bombing have started an organization. They want the same plan as the 9/11 families. In addition to that, some of the families of those bombed in the embassies are now asking for compensation as well. You see where this is going, don’t you…?

Folks, this is part and parcel of over 50 years of entitlement politics in this country. It’s just really sad. Every time a pay raise comes up for the military, they usually receive next to nothing of a raise. Now the green machine is in combat in the Middle East while their families have to survive on food stamps and live in low-rent housing.

Make sense?

However, our own U.S. Congress voted themselves a raise. Many of you don’t know that they only have to be in Congress one time to receive a pension that is more than $15,000 per month.

If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an E-7, they may receive a pension of $1,000 per month, and the very people who placed them in harm’s way receives a pension of $15,000 per month.

I would like to see our elected officials pick up a weapon and join ranks before they start cutting out benefits and lowering pay for our sons and daughters who are now fighting.

“When do we finally do something about this..?”

If this doesn’t seem fair to you, it is time to forward this to as many people as you can.

How many people CAN YOU send this to?

Because that is how Mama done it….

I’ll bet most teen aged girls, at one time or another, thought their Mother was a pain in the Gluteus Maximus. I did. The things Mama told me, often times, made no sense at all. When she told me the end pieces of a loaf bread were the most healthy, that sounded strange to me. I just knew at the time she wanted me to eat the end piece because no one else would…or she didn’t want it….or she did not want to throw it away…or some other stupid reason. How could it possibly be healthier for me? I was not eating it….in fact, I did not even eat that old crust around my peanut butter or tomato and mayonnaise sandwiches.

The other “Totally Stupid” rule was that I had to peel potatoes, cut them up, cover them in water and put them in the refrigerator the night before she cooked them on the following day. I can guarantee you when I asked her why I had to cut them the night before, (and I am sure I did) she would have said, “because they have to soak.” I can also guarantee you that, she would have told me they had to be covered in water so they would not turn black. You can be very sure that my “WHY” questions were often answered with, “because I said so, that’s why” or “that is how Mama done it.” I was welcome to think to myself that both were stupid reasons…but you can bet you sweet gluteus maximus, I had better sense than to say it aloud. So…I obeyed the Mama rules…until I was grown, then I created my own, new and improved, set of rules.

Rules change as we grow older because of something we call ‘progress.’ Hamburger joints, microwaves and the excessive use of plastics are, SADLY,  big symbols of progress.

It always amazes me when I read information released today that proves Mama’s methods and facts from my childhood.  A few moments ago, I found this health fact: Soak Potatoes Before Cooking…..Potatoes contain an amino acid called asparagine that, when exposed to high heat, changes into acrylamide, a neurotoxin. Acrylamide binds to the ends of our axons, making it tougher for brain cells to communicate with one another. Water protects asparagine, so soaking potatoes for 15 to 30 minutes before cooking them can stop it from transforming into acrylamide. Drain the potatoes and blot them dry before cooking.

I found this fact last week: In a German study, researchers found that the baking process produces a novel type of cancer-fighting antioxidant in bread that is eight times more abundant in the crust than in the crumb.

Rest assured that my Mama and her Mama never heard the words amino acid, asparagine, acrylamide or neurotoxin. They would not have known that they had axons or that acrylamide was binding to them. (I have no idea what they are, but I will after I google it.) They got their rules of cooking from previous generations who had somehow discovered that potatoes were healthier when water infused. Perhaps, in the even older days, they cooked potatoes fresh from harvest when they would have been moist and as a result were smart enough to soak the older potatoes.

By the way, if you are over sixty, go and take a look at the old family pictures of your Grandparents and Parents when they were children and adults. How many fat people do you see?

Get back with me on that, will you? ……….Why?

Because I said so, that’s why.

The Deplorable Infidel

“Capitalism has created the highest standard of living ever known on earth. The evidence is incontrovertible. The contrast between West and East Berlin is the latest demonstration, like a laboratory experiment for all to see. Yet those who are loudest in proclaiming their desire to eliminate poverty are loudest in denouncing capitalism. Man’s well-being is not their goal.”

“Why Socialism Failed”

1. Socialism is the Big Lie of the twentieth century. While it promised prosperity, equality, and security, it delivered poverty, misery, and tyranny. Equality was achieved only in the sense that everyone was equal in his or her misery. In the same way that a Ponzi scheme or chain letter initially succeeds but eventually collapses, socialism may show early signs of success. But any accomplishments quickly fade as the fundamental deficiencies of central planning emerge. It is the initial illusion of success that gives government intervention its pernicious, seductive appeal. In the long run, socialism has always proven to be a formula for tyranny and misery. A pyramid scheme is ultimately unsustainable because it is based on faulty principles. Likewise, collectivism is unsustainable in the long run because it is a flawed theory. Socialism does not work because it is not consistent with fundamental principles of human behavior. The failure of socialism in countries around the world can be traced to one critical defect: it is a system that ignores incentives. In a capitalist economy, incentives are the utmost importance. Market prices the profit-and-loss system of accounting, and private property rights provide an efficient, interrelated system of incentives to guide and direct economic behavior. Capitalism is based on the theory that incentives matter! Under socialism, incentives either play a minimal role or are ignored totally. A centrally planned economy without market prices or profits, where property is owned by the state, is a system without an effective incentive mechanism to direct economic activity. By failing to emphasize incentives, socialism is a theory inconsistent with human nature and is therefore doomed to fail. Socialism is based on a theory that incentives don’t matter!

2. The strength of capitalism can be attributed to an incentive structure based upon the three Ps: (1) prices determined by market forces, (2) a profit-and-loss system of accounting and (3) private property rights. The failure of socialism can be traced to its neglect of these three incentives-enhancing components.

3. By their failure to foster, promote, and nurture the potential of their people through incentive-enhancing institutions, centrally planned economics deprive the human spirit of full development. Socialism fails because it kills and destroys the human spirit – just ask the people leaving Cuba in homemade rafts and boats.

4. The temptress of socialism is constantly luring us with the offer: “give up a little of your freedom and I will give you a little more security.” As the experience of this century has demonstrated, the bargain is tempting but never pays off. We end up losing both our freedom and our security. Socialism will remain a constant temptation. We must be vigilant in our fight against socialism not only around the globe but also here in the United States. The failure of socialism inspired a worldwide renaissance of freedom and liberty. For the first time in the history of the world, the day is coming very soon when a majority of the people in the world will live in free societies or societies rapidly moving toward freedom. Capitalism will play a major role in the global revival of liberty and prosperity because it nurtures the human spirit, inspires human creativity, and promotes the spirit of enterprise. By providing a powerful system of incentives that promote thrift, hard work, and efficiency, capitalism creates wealth. The main difference between capitalism and socialism is this: capitalism works!

Mark J. Perry, 1995

“We cannot expect the Americans to jump from capitalism to communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have communism.”

The Tenth Amendment of the Constitution is a clause that states that all powers not specifically given to the federal government or prohibited to the states belong to the states and the people The departments of Education, Homeland Security, Commerce, Labor, Interior, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, Transportation, the EPA, and the Small Business Administration all fall outside of that clause and are unconstitutional. The Progressives have considered the Constitution as a living document to create a massive federal bureaucracy, with a $22trillion national debt, that the Founding Fathers could never have imagined. All these departments should be abolished and established by the states, if required, as per the Tenth Amendment. If Congress wants any of these departments within the federal government, it should amend the Enumerated Powers in Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution to give the federal government power to establish any one of these departments, but never consider the Constitution as a living document!

Moons Near Jupiter
Image Credit & Copyright: Betul Turksoy

Explanation: On May 20, a nearly Full Moon and Jupiter shared this telephoto field of view. Captured when a passing cloud bank dimmed the moonlight, the single exposure reveals the familiar face of our fair planet’s own large natural satellite, along with bright Jupiter (lower right) and some of its Galilean moons. Lined up left to right the tiny pinpricks of light near Jupiter are Ganymede, Europa, [Jupiter] and Callisto. (That’s not just dust on your screen …) Closer and brighter, our own natural satellite appears to loom large. But Ganymede, and Callisto are physically larger than Earth’s Moon, while water world Europa is only slightly smaller. In fact, of the Solar System’s six largest planetary satellites, Saturn’s moon Titan is missing from the scene and a fourth Galilean moon, Io, is hidden by our ruling gas giant.
