The two photos shown below are of an unusual WV CB. It is the 82 ft. long 1899 Hoke’s Mill covered bridge spanning Second Creek on Hoke’s Mill Road in Greenbrier County WV. It utilizes a very unusual variant of queenpost trusses. It was rebuilt in 2001.

COMMUNISM, SOCIALISM, CAPITALISM, AND DEMOCRACY
Communism is one of our top all-time lookups, and user comments suggest that’s because it is often used in opaque ways. In some sources, communism is equated with socialism; in others, it is contrasted with democracy and capitalism. Part of this confusion stems from the fact that the word communism has been applied to varying political systems over time. When it was first used in English prose, communism referred to an economic and political theory that advocated the abolition of private property and the common sharing of all resources among a group of people, and it was often used interchangeably with the word socialism by 19th century writers. The differences between communism and socialism are still debated, but generally English speakers used communism to refer to the political and economic ideologies that find their origin in Karl Marx’s theory of revolutionary socialism, which advocates a proletariat overthrow of capitalist structures within a society, societal and communal ownership and governance of the means of production, and the eventual establishment of a classless society. The most well-known expression of Marx’s theories is the 20th-century Bolshevism of the U.S.S.R., in which the state, through a single authoritarian party, controled a society’s economy and social activities with the goal of realizing Marx’s theories.
Communism is often contrasted with capitalism and democracy, though these can be false equivalencies depending on the usage. Capitalism refers to an economic theory in which a society’s means of production are held by private individuals or organization, not the government, and where prices, distribution of goods, and products are determined by a free market. It can be contrasted with the economic theories of communism, though the word communism is used of both political and economic theories. Democracy refers to a system of government in which supreme power is vested in the people and exercised through a system of direct or indirect representation which is decided through periodic free elections. Democracy is contrasted with communism primarily because the 20th century communism of the U.S.S.R. was characterized by an authoritarian government, whereas the democracy of the 20th-century U.S. was characterized by a representative government.

“Lenin’s great genius, of course, was for ideology, which was redefined all too often to support the tactical requirements of the moment. But owing to his fanatical conviction of his own righteousness, especially where socialism was concerned, and also to the Promethean force of his will, his pronouncements were enshrined by his followers as universal truths.”

AN OPINION FROM THE DEPLORABLE INFIDEL
Our Constitutional Republic is hanging on by a thread, and that thread is Donald Trump. So goes Donald Trump, so goes the Republic.
A SIMPLE TRUTH FOR TODAY
It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future.
This commercial is so good, I want to be sure everybody sees it.
Food City is a Southern grocery store chain with headquarters in Bristol, Tennessee.
This is their one-minute commercial. Not a word is spoken and none is needed.
Very few commercials deserve to go viral. I think this one does.
The Editor: What did our intrepid reporters miss, LL ?
Up To Date Cat: They didn’t really miss this article, it is so stupid that it took me a long time to see if it was true. A news station ordered a meteorologist to declare days ” code red days ” when there was no danger or emergency. He complained about his integrity and reminded the stupid management about yelling wolf. I guess they didn’t want CNN and MSNBC to be the only news people losing viewers.
The station owners want more money.
Here is a sure-fire winner. Nothing could go wrong with this.
Why aren’t the feds building bridges ?

Explanation: M13 is modestly recognized as the Great Globular Star Cluster in Hercules. A ball of stars numbering in the hundreds of thousands crowded into a region 150 light years across, it lies some 25,000 light-years away. The sharp, color picture of M13 at upper left is familiar to many telescopic imagers. Still, M13’s Color vs Magnitude Diagram in the panel below and right, made from the same image data, can offer a more telling view. Also known as a Hertzsprung Russell (HR) diagram it plots the apparent brightness of individual cluster stars against color index. The color index is determined for each star by subtracting its brightness (in magnitudes) measured through a red filter from its brightness measured with a blue filter (B-R). Blue stars are hot and red stars are cool so that astronomical color index ranging from bluer to redder follows the relative stellar temperature scale from left (hot) to right (cool). In M13’s HR diagram, the stars clearly fall into distinct groups. The broad swath extending diagonally from the bottom right is the cluster’s main sequence. A sharp turn toward the upper right hand corner follows the red giant branch while the blue giants are found grouped in the upper left. Formed at the same time, at first M13’s stars were all located along the main sequence by mass, lower mass stars at the lower right. Over time higher mass stars have evolved off the main sequence into red, then blue giants and beyond. In fact, the position of the turn-off from the main sequence to the red giant branch indicates the cluster’s age at about 12 billion years.
