Why You Shouldn’t….

Why you shouldn’t buy an electric car

First off, everything you have heard about electric cars and how good they are for the climate is a lie!!   A BIG lie.  Electric cars are really bad for the environment.  They cause more pollution than gasoline powered cars.  How you ask,  Well first you have to mine the Lithium from the ground.  That is done by strip mining, tearing away all of the top soil and then transporting it in giant trucks that burn diesel fuel by the gallon per mile.  Once at the refinery the ore is run through many chemical baths and the runoff is extremely toxic. The lithium has to then be turned into a paste to go into the batteries.  At the battery factory they need so much electric power that they have to have a power plant that burns coal or gas to make electric power for the plant.  Once on the road they need to be charged up or they don’t go anywhere.  So how do you charge them?  Why with power from an electric power generating plant, mostly powered by coal or gas.  Many areas do not have the capacity to handle all of the electric cars on the road right now, what is it going to be like when we are forced by the government to only be able to buy and drive electric vehicles.   Another thing they don’t go very far on a charge  (about 325 miles) and then you have to recharge them again.  That takes as long as 4 to 7 hours depending on the charger being used.  Sure you can get a “Quick Charge” in about 45 minutes but it degrades the service life of the battery.  And the battery costs about $12000 to 14000 dollars to replace.  And then there are the fire hazards.   Lithium batteries are well known to explode and catch fire randomly and while charging.  Do you really want to charge your car in the garage while you sleep??   If the battery is damaged in any way it increases the chance of fire by a gross amount.

Currently the President is pushing for all electric cars and the phase out of gas and diesel cars in the near future.   These cars cost more and require an infrastructure that is nowhere near ready for them.   In many areas you don’t even have charging stations anywhere close to each other and if you run out of power and need a charge, you have to call for roadside help and they show up in a gasoline powered truck with a gasoline powered charger and the charging fee is high.

So my recommendation is don’t waste your hard earned money on something that will only cost you much more in the end.   If you need to have a car and most people living in the USA do need a car, then buy one of Detroit’s gas or diesel powered cars. They are so much better at getting home from work or taking you on that great vacation.

Happy Motoring America!!
