The historical shift to 18 holes:

The Old Course at St. Andrews originally had 11 holes, but a round involved playing them out and back, creating a 22-hole round.
Combination of holes:
In 1764, golfers decided to combine the four shortest holes into two, resulting in a round of 18 holes.
The standard takes hold:
At the time, this was a change specific to St. Andrews. However, as golf gained popularity, and with the influence of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the 18-hole round became the de facto standard for courses in Scotland and eventually across the world.

Jesse
His mother was 40 years old when Jesse was born. Jesse grew up in a very rough home in Morgantown, West Virginia. Jesse’s father, who was mentally ill, was a violent man and was abusive to Jesse. At 13, his father died leaving his mother to take care of him and his brothers.
At the time, things weren’t easy for Jesse and he didn’t think life held much hope for him. While Jesse had his struggles, he had dreams too. He wanted to be a ventriloquist and he found books on ventriloquism. He practiced with sock puppets and saved his money until he could get a real ventriloquist dummy.
When he was old enough, he joined the military. The military recognized his talents and placed him in the entertainment corp. He toured the western Pacific Islands as a comedian as part of a G.I. variety show called “Stars and Gripes.” It was there he was able to share his talents with fellow soldiers. In 1946, he discharged with rank of Technician Grade 5, which was the equivalent then of a Corporal.
During his military service, Jesse was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (with 4 bronze service stars), Army Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Badge (with an M1 Carbine) and Honorable Service lapel pin. Through his military service, Jesse gained confidence and found that he had a talent for making people laugh. In spite of his early struggles, Jesse became one of the best-loved characters of all time.
For it was Jesse…Jesse Don Knotts who brought us Barney Fife!

The Surface of Titan from Huygens

Explanation: If you could stand on Titan — what would you see? The featured color view from Titan gazes across an unfamiliar and distant landscape on Saturn’s largest moon. The scene was recorded by ESA‘s Huygens probe in 2005 after a 2.5-hour descent through a thick atmosphere of nitrogen laced with methane. Bathed in an eerie orange light at ground level, rocks strewn about the scene could well be composed of water and hydrocarbons frozen solid at an inhospitable temperature of negative 179 degrees C. The large light-toned rock below and left of center is only about 15 centimeters across and lies 85 centimeters away. The saucer-shaped spacecraft is believed to have penetrated about 15 centimeters into a place on Titan’s surface that had the consistency of wet sand or clay. Huygen’s batteries enabled the probe to take and transmit data for more than 90 minutes after landing. Titan’s bizarre chemical environment may bear similarities to planet Earth’s before life evolved.

When Tommy James was asked if “Crystal Blue” is a reference to the Book of Revelation, he replied: “Yes, it is. It’s out of the Bible. The imagery was right out of Chapter 19 of the Book of Revelation, about the lake of crystal, and just what John sees. The imagery was just right there. ‘Crystal blue persuasion,’ although those words aren’t used together, it was what the image meant to me.”
The lyrics, “It’s a new vibration,” are about James becoming Christian, but many listeners had their own interpretation. He explained: “Of course, everybody thinks if they don’t understand what you’re talking about it must be about drugs. But it wasn’t. We were going through a real interesting time back then, and a very wonderful time. Everybody in the band, by the way, became Christian. And we’re very proud of it. And ‘Crystal Blue Persuasion’ was sort of our way of saying that in a kind of pop record way.

A 65 year old woman had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital.
While on the operating table, she had a near-death experience. Seeing God she asked, Is my time up?”
God said, “No, you have another 33 years, 2 months and 8 days to live.”
Upon recovery, the woman decided to stay in the hospital and have a face-lift, liposuction, breast implants and a tummy tuck. She even had someone come in and change her hair color and brighten her teeth! Since she had so much more time to live, she figured she might as well make the most of it.
After her last operation, she was released from the hospital. While crossing the street on her way home, she was killed by an ambulance.
Arriving in front of God, she demanded, “I thought you said I had another 33 years? Why didn’t you pull me from out of the path of the ambulance?”
God replied: “I didn’t recognize you!”
