IT SEEMS TO ME….Yearning to be free

WRITTEN BY: BILL BOWSER

The weather here in SW Ohio has cooled off dramatically in the last week, which enables me to resume walks around the neighborhood with Murphy. He still seems to be pretty spry, but he will soon be 12 years old, which is getting up there for a golden retriever. He seems to run out of gas at about a mile, so I limit his walks to about that length, and I avoid the hot summer weather with him, so we haven’t been out together for a while. I do enjoy taking longer walks at a faster pace alone during the summer. I know Murphy enjoys getting out, so, I’m happy to have him join me again.

In areas with little traffic I let him off leash so he can sniff whatever interests him, and he’s quite good at staying out of the street. A dog’s nose is his primary source of information about everything he encounters, so sniffing around the neighborhood is like reading the local newspaper for him. As we walked we came upon another dog walker, with a little happy fur ball straining at the leash. He commented about Murphy’s lack of restraint. I told him that Murphy enjoys his freedom, and I like to accommodate him whenever I can do so safely. I believe the same is true of all god’s creatures. Freedom is the natural state for essentially everything. It is much too scarce in human societies and among our pets too. Train your dogs to behave reliably off leash and enjoy watching them as they enjoy examining their environment. Let their curiosity be satisfied while they enjoy their freedom outside their familiar territory.

Sh2-188: The Shrimp Nebula
Image Credit & Copyright: Pawel Piechnik

Explanation: What causes the swirl in the Shrimp Nebula? Its high speed is likely. What is sure is that Sh2-188 is one of the larger planetary nebulas on the night sky, by angular size, spanning about half the diameter of the Moon. Moreover, the white-dwarf core — leftover from the Sun-like star that shed its outer atmosphere — is moving unusually fast through interstellar space, creating a bow shock most visible on the upper left that is similar to a boat plowing through water. Although faint, the Shrimp Nebula glows also by compressing and brightening gas on its leading edge. The featured image was taken in the light of hydrogen, sulfur, and oxygen by a backyard telescope in Krakow, Poland and then digitally adjusted to approximate the nebula‘s true colors.

Cadence…Soundoff

I lived in Jacksonville, Florida  when my husband was was stationed there  in the Navy. I would go to the base everyday to listen to the various cadences and watch the marches. I loved them.
BUT…I am proud to say that I never met Grody Jody.

IT SEEMS TO ME…My House Is A Mess

WRITTEN BY: BILL BOWSER

More than 30 years ago when I was working on projects as an engineer it was essential that I kept everything well organized and naturally I did so. But at home my innate nature takes over, and I could easily be considered a slob. This afternoon I performed a long-overdue cleanup of one of my work spaces while having an imaginary conversation with myself about the ridiculous position I had gotten myself into.

I always have a number of little projects in progress, which is a good reason to be well organized, but I’m not. My worst habit probably is that the residue of previous finished or abandoned projects is allowed to accumulate in the work space, like a cancer that quickly reaches the point where the thought of dealing with the mess discourages me from doing anything about it. So it keeps getting worse. There are tools and who knows what else hidden in the clutter that I need, but can’t find. It’s ridiculous, and I know it’s ridiculous, but I can’t seem to prevent myself from continuing to do it.

I am going to try to TURN OVER A NEW LEAF. Focus on one thing at a time. When it’s finished, put away the tools, leftover parts and materials, clean up and dispose of the debris that was created, and have a clean work space that is ready for the next project. I have just begun this process, I have several cluttered work spaces. I’ll be busy. Things will be better.

I can’t be the only person who does this, so I thought I would point out how inefficient it is to behave like this in order to help others avoid this nonsense. When the number of things you have  exceeds the  amount of storage space you have, then you have a problem.

Wacky & Weird Facts: Animals Part 7

A mosquito’s proboscis, or nose, has forty-seven sharp edges on its tip to help cut through skin, and can even cut through protective clothing.

When a cat rubs their face on an item, they’re not merely scratching themself; they’re actually leaving their own scent behind. Cats have glands located around their mouths, chins, inside of their face, neck and ears. This is called “bunting.”

Pigeons produce milk to feed their young, one of three bird species to do so.

A group of bears is called a “sloth of bears.”

A tiger’s tongue is so coarse it can actually lick flesh down to the bone.
