ON MY SOAPBOX…Putting on the dog

Isn’t it amazing that as we grow older our reflective memories grow more clear and our current memories fade? Hence; with age comes wisdom. I love that concept. I much prefer memories of my younger years, comparatively speaking.

I am sure that every Baby Boomer and member of The Greatest Generation remembers little phrases or idioms they heard as children. Don’t cry over spilled milk, The squeaky wheel gets the grease, Don’t count your chickens before they hatch, There is no point to beating a dead horse, etc.

Today as my husband was leaving for town in the cold weather of 18°  he said,  “I am Puttin’ On The Dog with my nice, warm coat.” I just laughed. After he left, I wondered how that phrase came to be.

The expression ‘Puttin on the dog’ came from the 1860s American college students to  describe ‘putting on a flashy display.’

I thought about the colleges/universities of today.  Thanks to the Plagiarizing Ex-President Claudine Gay and her HATRED of Jews,

Harvard has Gone to the Dogs!

FYI:
Harvard’s Claudine Gay is set to keep her nearly $900K annual salary despite resigning as university president.
