After being paroled from prison, Frank Abagnale became a successful security consultant and financial fraud expert, working closely with the FBI for decades.
He used his experience to lecture on fraud detection and founded his own company, Abagnale & Associates, which advises on fraud and security matters.
Early life and criminal career: In the 1960s, Abagnale worked as a con artist and forger, impersonating various professionals like a pilot and a doctor, and cashing millions in bad checks.
Imprisonment: He was eventually caught and served time in prisons in France, Sweden, and the United States.
Parole and new career: After serving five years of his 12-year sentence, he was paroled on the condition that he help the FBI with forgery cases. He started by lecturing on fraud and eventually established his own security consulting company.
FBI involvement: For nearly 40 years, he has worked with the FBI as a consultant and lecturer at their academy.
Public recognition: His life was the subject of the 2002 film Catch Me If You Can and a corresponding Broadway musical.
