Good morning.

As you may recall, my Good Night song last night was Little GTO by Ronnie and The Daytonas. Being from the baby boomer generation, that was one of my favorite songs. After I posted that song, I asked myself, “Self, what did GTO stand for in that song?” Self replied, “I don’t know’ it appears to be an acronym, why don’t you query the Google God and solve that conundrum?”

That sounded like good advice so I queried The Google Master. Afterwards, I wished I had never had that conversation with myself. Now I am worried that the LGBTQAI, etc. crowd is going to come and take me away…Ha! Ha! You know, the very idea that I am about to use the word Homologate and they have not had a chance to investigate or officially add an H, to their Queer Alphabet Club string of letters.  After all, there are probably plenty of perverts out in La-La land who wish to identify as a Turn It On, Wind It Up, Blow It Out GTO. I can just see them as they sashay behind their GTO in their Gay Parade. (YUK, awful mental picture!)

In fact, I would not be surprised if Pete Buttigieg does not confiscate all GTOs in America when he finds out they are homologates. Pete will paint them with rainbows and unicorns, then electrify them.

Now for some interesting facts about the beautiful and powerful GTOs.

It turns out that GTO means Gran Turismo Omologato in Italian or Grand Touring Homologated, in English. The initials are most closely associated with the 1960s Pontiac GTO muscle car. The origin actually traces back as a car name to Enzo Ferrari and his classic Ferrari 250 GTO.

Grand Touring refers to a road-racing class for legal touring cars with at least limited production and public sales, not one-off racecars. Homologated refers to the process of getting such cars approved as meeting the technical specifications and the minimums for production and sales. The latter can be a low bar, allowing a small number of cars essentially built for the track, not the street.

Only 36 Ferrari 250 GTOs were built from 1962 to 1964 and they had huge success on the track, including GT class wins in the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1962 and 1963. They’re now sought-after collector cars, with one selling at an auction in 2018 for a whopping $48,405,000  and another going for $70 million in a private sale.

This was TMI (Too Much Information) for me. I was held virtual hostage by The Google God until I read all this stuff. You know what I mean. The irresistible ads start popping up? What’s a girl to do? I bought 3 cases of wine and 6 pairs of shoes before they would release me. I am going to sue somebody. Well, I would….but all English speaking lawyers are busy on this Camp Lejuene water problem. Maybe I will get lucky and my wine was bottled at Camp Lejuene between 1953 and 1987. Probably not….my wine usually has dates like “Bottled in October.”

As I recall from my youth,  I remember seeing the acronym LTD on a few Fords.

But you can be certain that….I will not be asking myself or The Google God what that acronym stood for…in fact, I am never speaking to myself again. I will not live long enough to wear out 6 pairs of Google Shoes.
