When Richard I died in France in 1199, his heart was removed from his body and buried in Rouen.

The medieval King of  England, Henry III, once kept a pet polar bear at the Tower of London.

Edward I’s nickname was “The Hammer of the Scots” because of his repeated and violent attempts to see off rebellions from north of the English border.

King John’s official wardrobe records state that the king owned what we would now call a nightgown. 

King John is known for signing the important legal document  called the Magna Carta back in 1215. Despite its age, several of the document’s clauses remain law in the United Kingdom to this day.

King Edward II made it illegal for anyone to wear a suit of armor in the British Houses of Parliament.

To celebrate the coronation of Richard II in 1377, the water in the fountains of London was replaced with wine.

Henry VI became king when he was just nine months old. He went on to reign for 40 years. Oddly, his reign was split in two as he was deposed for a decade and reinstated in 1470.
