Col. Robert L. Howard was one of the Vietnam War’s most highly decorated servicemen. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for rescuing fellow Green Berets while wounded and under enemy fire. He died of pancreatic cancer on December 23, 2009 at a hospice in Waco, Tex. He was 70.
