Fun Facts: Airplanes & Airports Part 4

In September of 1940, two planes collided over Brocklesby, Australia, their engines interlocked, and the top plane’s engines stopped working. The engines on the plane underneath continued to work and the pilot of that craft landed both planes safely and all four crewmen survived.

Planes used to be a lot more comfortable. In the 1940’s, the Boeing 377 Stratocruiser had reclining club chairs throughout the cabin. On intercontinental flights, every seat could adjust into a bed so that each passenger could sleep.

Sir Richard Branson once lost a bet with Air Asia’s CEO, Tony Fernandes, on the winner of the 2010 Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi. He had to work as a flight attendant on Tony’s airline from Perth to Kuala Lumpur.

The SR-71 Blackbird was the world’s fastest air-breathing, man-made aircraft and outran 4,000 missiles fired at it during its service.
